Game 24: Salisbury City 1.1 Southport (Conference Premier) 21.12.13
A game played in awful conditions as heavy rain and wind swept over the Ray Mac. Salisbury had the better of the first half and should have scored late on when Sinclair was brought down in the box. Fitchett took the penalty but Hurst guessed the right way and pushed the ball out as he dived to his right.
Southport took the lead against the run of play from a corner, despite substituting their well known strikers Brodie and Ellington early in the half. The ball was whipped into the centre of the box and after a scramble was kicked into the net to the delight of the leaping Santas who were getting soaked behind the away end goal. Salisbury equalised in similar circumstances six minutes later, the ball being prodded past Hurst from close range. Wellard almost used the wind to score direct from a corner late on but a combination of post and keeper kept it out. 724 braved the elements to watch the game.
