Game 4: QK Southampton 2.3 Baffins Milton Rovers (Hampshire Premier) 23.08.14
After six games of the league season Baffins Milton Rovers were top of the Hampshire Premier League table with maximum points going into the game. They had also won their last two games 8.0 so QK Southampton had a tough task to get something from the match.
Baffins had most of the play in the first half and came close to scoring on several occasions but few efforts were on target. Queens Keep were limited to a few breakaways but managed to take the lead just before the referee blew for halftime. A break down the left saw the ball played across and past the keeper before going into an empty net. Baffins had an inquest on the pitch at half time as the players and management team put their points across.
The second half started evenly and both teams had some good chances. Baffins managed to get level from a corner midway through the half. The ball was hit into the box and a high header looped over the keeper and in. Four minutes later and a deflection from a clearance saw the ball back in the net again. It wasn’t clear at first if the goal would be given as a club assistant had his flag up for offside but after a conversation with the referee the goal was allowed to stand.
Baffins made some substitutions and changed their formation from a 4-3-3 to a 4-5-1 to try and kill the game off. This didn’t have the desired effect at first as in the 83rd minute QK equalised. A poor Baffins pass across the box went to a QK player who moved forward and hit a low shot into the corner. Baffins came straight back with the best move of the game two minutes later. The ball was passed into the area and a superb one-two put their player in on goal. He unselfishly passed the ball to the left as the keeper came out, allowing his team mate to slot the ball into an empty net.
