Game 1: Salisbury 1.4 Bristol Rovers (Friendly) 11.07.15
First game of the season and a quick stroll over to the Ray Mac for a 2pm kickoff against League 2 newboys Bristol Rovers. There were a few familiar faces on display for both teams including Steve Mildenhall, Stuart Sinclair and Darrell Clarke for the visitors.
Salisbury kicked off and looked close to scoring in the first minute as they attacked the far end. Rovers soon settled and took the lead in the 11th minute. A long ball caught out the Salisbury defence and the keeper’s attempt to reach the ball before a Bristol player didn’t come off. The ball was crossed into the middle, leaving Lucas with a tap in.
Bristol Rovers added to their lead in the 52nd minute, a great through ball found Blissett with just the keeper to beat and he played the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. Four minutes later and it was 0.3 to the vistors, a great run down the right and cross teed up Lucas at the far post to head home past the substitute Salisbury keeper.
Salisbury had a late flourish, Herbert put an overhead kick wide of goal and with a few minutes to go they were unlucky to see the ball hit the post. Moments later Bristol cleared it but only to Coulson who hit a screamer from 30 yards into the top corner. A fantastic goal! This only stirred Rovers and Blissett scored his second as he broke away from the defence and scored with a low shot.
An entertaining afternoon of football watched by 1068.
