Game 20: Farnham Town 1.0 AFC Hayes (Combined Counties Premier)

Game 20: Farnham Town 1.0 AFC Hayes (Combined Counties Premier) 23.04.16

Met up with Paul to visit the Memorial Ground in Farnham for the last home game of the season. The ground had a unique character with one end elevated above the goal with a old wooden stand behind it. Farnham scored the only goal of the game after 23 minutes after a good dribble took out 3 defenders. The ball was passed to the near post and swept low past the keeper. Hayes started to see more of the play but were unable to make the most of their possession.

The second half was a typical end of season affair. One of the AFC Hayes players had to go off after a strong tackle, perhaps in retaliation for his description of an opponent as a “pussy” which earnt him a yellow card. There were no subs on the bench but the 10 men had the best chance, a beautiful shot from 30 yards that dipped over the keeper but crashed on to the bar and out. One of the Farnham supporters explained that this was the worst performance he’d seen this season but this was due to the team having to play several games in the past week so a number of reserves were in the team.
